About

COTEFL (Conference on Teaching English as a Foreign Language) is an academic forum organized by the Faculty of Cultural Sciences and Communication, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto, formerly known as the Faculty of Literature. This conference serves as a platform for lecturers, researchers, students, and education practitioners to exchange ideas, present research findings, and share innovative strategies in the teaching of English as a Foreign Language (EFL).

COTEFL was first held more than a decade ago, and by 2025, it will have been held eleven times, with this year marking the 12th edition. Although not conducted annually in a fixed schedule, COTEFL has consistently served as a significant forum responding to the latest developments in English language teaching, both in local and global contexts.

Over the years, several editions of COTEFL have also been held in strategic collaboration with CELTI (Conference on English Language Teaching and Innovation), an academic conference organized by the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Saifuddin Zuhri. This collaboration has broadened the scope of discussion, brought together diverse pedagogical approaches from various institutions, and strengthened academic networks across universities in Indonesia.

Alongside the institutional transition from the Faculty of Literature to the Faculty of Cultural Sciences and Communication, the themes of COTEFL have also expanded. The conference now covers not only linguistic and pedagogical aspects but also extends to cultural studies, intercultural communication, educational technology, and the digital transformation of language learning. This evolution has ensured that COTEFL remains relevant, adaptive, and inclusive in addressing the dynamics of modern education.
